Offering a hands-on program of art and
craft instruction for resorts and retreat centers in Northern Michigan
Cedar Song Center for the Arts was established
in 1997 with a pilot project hosted at Garland Golf Resort. We provided
six art instructors and provided classes in decoy carving, fish carving,
birch bark basket making, bentwood chair making, walking stick carving,
painting and drawing.
Those taking the course came with many
different objectives. Some wanted to develop a skill for personal satisfaction,
others found it a chance for creative recreation, and yet others were fascinated
with area heritage crafts. All who completed the courses expressed enjoyment
and excitement with creating something with their own hands.
Cedar Song Center for the Arts is a program
that can be done on location. We offer it to resorts, museums, art centers
and outdoor camps as a special attraction for their guests, especially
for group bookings.
